Should I get a Mac or PC?

I am heading off to college her in the next few months and am obviously going to need a laptop. I've never personally used a MacBook Pro extensively, but I do love the look and the benefits (lasts longer, better battery, no virus', etc). Every person I ask has something different to tell me and I seem to be second guessing myself when I think about what computer I want. I have friends who have Macs and will never go back to PC, but also have friends who give me crap for wanting a Mac. Can you give me what computer you would reccomend and why? I don't want answers like "because it's just better," I want real facts. I'm sure there are some people out there that know a thing or two about computers to help me out! Which one should I get and why?
